AI turned my class into a song — and I can’t stop listening
One of my student used ChatGPT and Suno to create a musical ode to my Pizza and a Slice of Future class, and it’s awesome!
Despite my best intentions not to post anything this weekend — especially not about AI — I caved when one of my students played me this AI-generated song about my Pizza and a Slice of Future class.
Created by Jacob Seipert using ChatGPT and Suno, I couldn’t stop grinning as I listened to the song — and I challenge you not to do the same 😊
Plus, the the theme of what it means to be human in the future feels especially relevant at the moment …
(You can also listen here on Suno)
More from Jacob on how the song came about (as well as the lyrics) below.1 But if you simply need a slice of AI pizza musical joy to make your day a little brighter, just sit back and listen!
As Jacob explains …
I try to stay up to date on the progress of the latest AI tools. A program called Suno allows you to generate your own songs with as much or as little prompting as you'd like.
Only a few months ago I messed with it — and while impressive, it still sounded like an AI made song. But it has obviously improved a lot since then, with much clearer voices, and more creative and dynamic songs generated.
I decided to make a song for my all time favorite class,2 'Pizza and a Slice of the Future'. I used a conjunction of Suno and ChatGPT — ChatGPT so that I could give it a link to the class website, and so that I could bounce ideas back and forth about what I wanted to be in it. Then I took the lyrics and other stylistic prompts that ChatGPT gave me, and handed the rest over to Suno.
Similarly, I iterated a few times with Suno to tweak the style.
I was astounded at the result, how clear the voice is. This seriously has convinced me to see if I can replace the music I normally listen to with AI-generated songs about exactly what I want.
… and the lyrics (because I know someone will ask!)
Verse 1 Could we one day 3D-print living organ? A once-distant dream, now waiting to be touched? Will AIs replace our loved politicians? Shaping laws in code, forging new directions? Where’s the soul when guided by algorithms? In every question, we find what it means to be human. Chorus Welcome to “Pizza and a Slice of Future,” From “The Future of Being Human,” By Andrew Maynard— Here’s a taste of tomorrow, served up one slice at a time. Verse 2 What if humans and AI walk as equals? Biology entwined with minds that run on code? With empathy and logic, we paint tomorrow’s canvas, Sketching visions no single mind could hold. Will we carry our story beyond Earth’s cradle, Sowing life in cosmic fields yet unknown? Follow “Modem Futura” for more to explore, From Phoenix deserts to Martian dunes, we roam. (Repeat Chorus) Welcome to “Pizza and a Slice of Future,” From “The Future of Being Human,” By Andrew Maynard— Here’s a taste of tomorrow, served up one slice at a time. Bridge In the mirror of progress, we glimpse our reflection, At the crossroads of code and compassion. Between wonder and fear, a new horizon unfolds, Quietly asking: “What does it mean to be human?” (Repeat Chorus) Welcome to “Pizza and a Slice of Future,” From “The Future of Being Human,” By Andrew Maynard— Here’s a taste of tomorrow, served up one slice at a time. Outro We stand at the threshold with hearts wide open, Each question a spark revealing who we are. Our future calls, and we hold the pen to write it, Forever searching—what does it mean to be human? (End) What does it mean to be human?
I can see this as being the next wave of AI-driven viral class marketing. Now what would The Moviegoer’s Guide to the Future sound like …
Thanks Jacob — totally unprompted! AM
Very cool. Been playing with Suno the past months and it is impressive. Though I find many of the creations are either a 2D version of Eurovision or some reflection on American pop, voices/accents are also limited. As someone that creates music I do find it cool as a playground but there is a fidelity of feeling that is lost in the output. Also what of all the artists who created music you listen too Andrew being replaced by AI generated music? What are the implications of this as a trend? Like with all technologies that become entangled in our lives we gain something and loose something too.
Impressive. With that beat, I may listen to it while on the elliptical.
