Revisiting "Films from the Future" – Complimentary Copies Available
Revisiting my book Films from the Future, it's more relevant than ever as advanced technologies continue to transform our lives. So I thought I'd make it freely available to anyone who's interested
Nearly six years ago I published the book Films from the Future: The Technology and Morality of Sc-Fi Movies. It did well at the time. But like most books, interest tailed off after a year or so.
However, revisiting it, the book seems more relevant now than ever as we face wave after wave of transformative emerging technologies — so I thought I’d make it even more accessible by offering a free PDF of it to anyone who’s interested.
The book sets out to grapple with the emergence and potential implications of a wide range of emerging technologies, from gene editing and human enhancement to AI, brain computer interfaces, nanotechnology, and more.
It uses twelve science fiction movies as jumping off points to do this — hence the title. But the book’s emphasis is squarely focused on how we wrap our collective heads around building a vibrant future where emerging technological are advancing faster than we ever dreamed possible.
Rather than act as a guide to specific technologies, Films from the Future sets out to explore the much larger landscape around how we think about and develop transformative technologies in ways that make the future a better place. And this, I think, is why it retains its relevance — even though the technological landscape today is quite different to where we were in 2018.
Re-reading it, many of the ideas in the book are reflected in my current work around the future of being human and navigating advanced technology transitions. And surprisingly, they retain their freshness and relevance.
If you’re interested in reading the book, or simply checking it out, just fill in this request and I’ll email you a copy.
And if you find it useful or engaging, please do fee free to let others know — I’d love to see a new wave of readers engaging with the book.
Cheers
Andrew
