You write, "CIFAR is a Canadian research organization that has a long track record of convening extraordinary thinkers from around the globe to address some of the biggest, most complex, and intriguing questions facing humanity."

The question at the heart of the modern world is arguably our relationship with knowledge.

We're trying to navigate the 21st century using a 19th century "more is better" relationship with knowledge philosophy. That "more is better" philosophy made perfect sense in the long era of knowledge scarcity. We no longer live in that old era, but in a very different new era characterized by knowledge exploding in every direction at accelerating rates.

Technically we are racing ahead, philosophically we're clinging to the past. We're failing to adapt our relationship with knowledge to meet the new environment which the success of science has created. For every species on Earth the price tag for failing to adapt to changing conditions is death.
